Growing up, my sister and I along with our cousins spent a significant amount of time over my grandparents’ house. My grandparent’s house was the family hub. We attended schools in their neighborhood and summers while our parents worked. One thing that was a constant in my grandparents’ home was my grandma’s stories. Her favorite, The Young and The Restless, is a soap opera still on air today! On days we could not go outside, we were not allowed to touch the television locked on the CBS 62 channel. Naturally, as kids do, we sat and became exposed to the ruthlessness of character, Victor Newman and the love triangle of brothers Neil and Malcolm Winters and Drucilla Winters. The plots and storylines captured our attention and drew us in. This picture is inspired by those moments as kids watching my grandmas’ stories. "Grandma’s Stories" is 1 of 13 pieces from my 3rd solo show, Detroit: A Childhood Nostalgia in Pigments. The show is inspired by memories of growing up in Detroit as a kid.
